Intrepid Cats

Based out of Auckland, New Zealand, Intrepid Cats was born of a need to create a new breed of motoryacht that breaks down the barriers to fun on the water.

The company's first model is the i40 Sedan, seen at right and below, an innovative new design from Noah Thompson Designs, that delivers huge volume, super economy and innovative features.

The design includes two full width cabins, both with double beds plus a roomy forward cabin with twin bunks. It also includes a large shower and head up forward, as well as a day head in the cockpit. In the salon there is a large semicircular dinette and U-shaped Galley, as well as the helm station. The cockpit is enormous for a 40 foot boat.

Twin 180 HP Yanmar diesels will propel the i40 to a top speed of 23knots and a cruise speed of 16-17 knots, consuming a miserly 1.5L/NM. With 1000L fuel capacity, the i40 has a range of just under 1000NM at 9-10 knots.

The unique bulbous bows on the semi-displacement hulls give the i40 an extremely high prismatic coefficient, allowing smoother flow of water over the wide body section of the hulls, offering a longer waterline length and  increased forward buoyancy, this allows the hulls to cut through the waves cleanly, but also rising up with buoyancy in the wave before the wave impacts the tunnel and creating a slam effect.
